FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Plan to Abolish Property Taxes Gathers Momentum

3,000 citizens take part in state-wide teleconference to hear grassroots organizations plan to abolish property taxes. Miami State Representative pledges support.

West Palm Beach, FL/ November 21, 2007 -- On Monday evening, November 19th, Not Good Enough Florida Founder and President Joe Raineri, along with Executive Director John Hallman, hosted a state-wide teleconference call to discuss their plan to abolish all property taxes through a citizens constitutional ballot initiative. More than 3,000 citizens across Florida took part.

Margie Patchett, president of the Volusia County Tax Reform organization joined the call to announce that Volusia Tax Reform had officially endorsed the plan and stated that completely doing away with property taxes is the only solution to the property tax crisis in Florida.

After listening to the teleconference, Florida Representative Julio Robaina (R-Miami) contacted Joe Raineri and pledged his full support to Not Good Enough Florida and their campaign to abolish property taxes.

The citizens must take matters into their own hands if they want greater property tax reform says Robaina.

He went on to say that Abolishing property taxes can be done and Not Good Enough Florida is the organization that can make it happen.”

Raineri commented after the callI have been overwhelmed by the support of thousands of Floridians supporting our plan to abolish property taxes in recent weeks.  Citizens are realizing that the only way to make the current property tax system truly fair and equitable for all is to abolish it.

Raineri went on to say; The first question about replacing revenue should be about the excessive and irresponsible spending by local governments over the last six years. Florida doesn't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH FLORIDA is planning another Teleconference for Citizens on Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 at 7:30pm.  Representative Robaina and other tax group leaders from around the state will be speaking.

The Following are the cities we are appointing Citizen's Budget Advisory Committees to:    Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, Ormond Beach, Lake Helen, Orange City, Deltona, Port Orange, County of Volusia, School Board

If you are interested in serving on one of the budget advisory committees, please let us know!

The following is from Volusia County Property Appraiser, Morgan Gilreath regarding the 2007 proposed millage rates:

This was the opportunity for each City, County or independent taxing authority (St. Johns, Hospitals, etc) to show their compliance (or otherwise) with the mandate of the Florida Legislature.  All taxing authorities were slotted in "millage-reduction" categories of 0%, -3%, -5%, -7%, -9% below the current year roll-edback rate.  To do otherwise would require a 2/3 or unanimous vote.  Volusia County has 5 authorities who chose not to "reduce" to the level of the state mandate.  All had the vote to do so, but it is an interesting statement to make in this year.  They are highlighted in the list attached as a PDF document "% Change In Millage Rates..."  Also shown are the 2006 rates and the % change from that.... because never forget that... were it not for the tax reform movement of this past year, "same as last year's" millage is where most all of them would be...  As it is, there are 3 cities where the legislature said their high rate of spending from 2001-2006 warranted a reduction of 9% below the rolled-back rate... who are hitting their taxpayers with Notices of Proposed Taxes (TRIM notices) at the rolled-back rate... in plain english, these cities taxpayers will see Notices with taxes "raised" 9% higher than they thought were coming and were recommended by the legislature.  The West Volusia Hospital Authority went over 13% over the recommended rate by actually voting to go with "the same rate as last year."

NOTE:  the following cities are going below the state mandated rate:

Daytona Beach Downtown Development, Daytona Beach Shores, Lake Helen, New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange, (by one tenth of a percent)

The following cities are just going to roll back rate, not the state mandated rate:

Edgewater, Oak Hill, Ponce Inlet

The following taxing districts WENT ABOVE ROLL BACK RATE

West Volusia Hospital Authority by 10.4% and ORANGE CITY by 2.7%

The following graph shows the 2007 proposed millage rates for each of our taxing districts in Volusia County.   It compares the millage rates from last year to this year and which taxing districts are proposing to go to the state mandated rates and above.  The TRIM Notices should be mailed about August 15, 2007.

EVERYONE  ---

THE FOLLOWING IS THE 2006 POPULATION ESTIMATES FOR FLORIDA SINCE 2000,(from the census bureau)  WHICH I FOUND ON THE ATTACHED LINK (WHICH WAS IN THE ORLANDO SENTINEL).  I HAVE THEN COMPARED THE POPULATION INCREASES IN EACH YEAR TO THE PERCENTAGE OF TAX INCREASES EACH YEAR FOR EACH CITY… I OBTAINED THE TAX INCREASE INFORMATION FROM OUR PROPERTY APPRAISER, MORGAN GILREATH’S WEBSITE.  IT IS VERY INTERESTING IF YOU COMPARE THE POPULATION INCREASE AND SOMETIMES DECREASE TO THE PERCENTAGE OF THE TAX INCREASE FOR THE SAME YEAR……

it is interesting to note that since some populations did not increase very much in the past six years, why would our cities being threatening to cut the fire and police..... this is some very interesting information.
